Types of Therapy I offer

I am an integrative counsellor, which simply means I intentionally trained in different types of theoretical counselling approaches as I want to be able to adapt to suit what you need, not ask that you adapt to how I work.

I offer the following therapies but you may prefer an integrative or pluralistic approach to our work where we combine elements of several of these.  We can talk about this in our first session & I can answer any questions you may have.   Click on the therapy name for a more detailed description from Counselling Directory UK

Person Centered Therapy

This forms the basis for all my client work and is a talking therapy approach that helps us understand your experiences and reframe them if relevant,  which enables you to move forward from them so you can begin to thrive, not just survive.   This work allows you to live a life where you trust your own judgement and live by your own values, not those of others.

Cognitive Behavioural therapy

This is also a talking therapy but encourages you to focus on and begin to recognise how your thoughts affect your feelings and behaviors.  With CBT we can change these thoughts and behaviors by breaking the problem down and tackling it in smaller chunks.   We will look at your negative automatic thoughts and challenge how accurate these are and are you able to start to view things differently?

Psychodynamic Therapy

This is a therapeutic approach working on the idea that your unconscious thoughts are developed in childhood yet affect your current behaviors and thoughts.    In order to keep the undesired and unwelcome thoughts in the subconscious, humans develop defenses that cause us problems today. This type of therapy looks at and help us understand these in you so you can make the changes that you feel are appropriate.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

This is an approach to therapy that focuses more on finding an immediate solution, rather than exploring and understanding the problem so the natural solution emerges.   It tends to be shorter term therapy and is frequently incorporated into other therapies

Rewind Trauma Therapy

This is a short term therapy for PTSD, normally only requiring1-3 sessions.  The advantage of Rewind for trauma, is it will not retraumatise you - you do not have to relive the trauma by telling me details of it.    This is suitable for all types of trauma & PTSD i.e. sexual assault, armed services experiences, domestic violence, a car accident, assault or childhood abuse, for example.

I offer Rewind therapy free to all current and ex-serving military personnel.
